The History

The History of the Avenue Montaigne’s neighborhood...
In the writings of the seventeenth century, it is called the Avenue Montaigne as a simple path along which were cultivated vegetables.
In 1770, the avenue was planted with a double row of elms on the orders of the Marquis de Marigny and was nicknamed Widows Alley. Indeed, we met there single women in search of a love affair
It was not the refined place we now know. This is also at the foot of the elm's Walk of Widows, located at the house of a certain Lady Brûlée that were hidden jewels of the crown of France stolen in 1792.

In 1850, the avenue was renamed Avenue Montaigne in honor of the moralist Michel de Montaigne. At the 1855 World's Fair, the Beaux-Arts Palace is built by the architect Hector Lefuel, elegant houses begin to be formed along the avenue which became one of the fashionable places next to the Champs-Elysees.
The avenue is leading to stunning views of Paris's most famous building: the Eiffel Tower.
Since 1913, the famous Champs-Elysées Theatre, art deco style, is the famous host of the avenue, in front of the Hôtel Montaigne.
After the war, the installation of the young couturier Christian Dior leads to the development of luxury shops in the artery and prosperity that we know.
